NICe7 [Noir Music, Gruuv]
Italian DJ/producer tag team, NICe7, have been on a tear the past year. Following the winning of ‘Tech House Track Of The Year’ (2012) with their original production Point, Nicola and Cesare have not shown anything close to signs of slowing down. Recently they released a 5 track EP titled ‘Back To Basics’ on Noir Music as well as a bunch of remixes on various labels such as Victor Calderone’s Waveform Recordings and Talk Musique. Apart of the massive talent group which hails from Italy, NICe7 has grabbed the attention of the world as their productions are being continuously played by DJs around the globe. During this busy Summer season, the NICe7 boys were kind enough to interview with me shortly after their arrival from Ibiza. Enjoy!
NICe7′s Back To Basics Podcast
Datilly: Thanks for taking the time to interview with us guys. For our readers how old are you and where are you guys originally from?
NICe7: We are 32 (Cesare) and 33 (Nicola). We both grew up in a small coastal town called San Salvo, which is in the middle of Italy on the Adriatic side.
Datilly: So let’s talk a little bit about how you guys got together to start Nice7. Were you friends before you decided to work together? Had you both been working independently before you started the duo?
NICe7: We’ve been friends forever. As we said before, we were both born in the same small coastal town in the center of Italy. It’s the kind of place where everybody knows everybody. Until 2005, we worked in music separately, but we both started at 13. After a lot of different experiences all over Italy, we decided to join forces in DJing, clubbing and production. This was how our project Nice7 started.
Datilly: How would you describe your sound individually? What aspects do each of you bring to the table to combine and make that sound Nice7 has become notable for?
NICe7: Cesare does more of the technical work and the studio arrangements. Nicola is always looking for new music and different ideas to work on. But we do everything together, both in the studio and live playing sets.
Datilly: Your production Point reached number 1 on the Beatport Charts as well as won the Tech House track of the year. How much did it mean to you guys to get recognized for one of your originals like that? Did you expect for that track to take off as it did?
NICe7: To be honest, we absolutely didn’t expect it! We thought it was a good track, but in our opinion we didn’t think it was our best work! Anyways, it was super and we’re really happy for that big result! We got a lot of interest coming in for our music. A Beatport #1 is one of the best spotlights for a producer at the moment. After the Beatport success many things happened and many people started to follow us. The hard thing is to repeat after such a big result!
NICe7′s Award Winning Track ‘Point’
Datilly: Your most recent EP release on Noir Music is titled ‘Back To Basics’. How did you guys go about developing the concepts for each of the 5 tracks. Is this the sound that Nice7 is all about? Would you guys say that you will more likely then not continue with the sounds embellished in the 5 tracks? Which of the 5 was your favorite?
NICe7: As we said before, it’s a hard thing to follow up such a successful release. We worked hard to find the right sound for these new tracks. Our idea together with Noir, was to release 5 different tracks to showcase more aspects of our music. So we went back to basics, back to the roots! Our favorite is Time To Get Physical.

Datilly: What are some upcoming releases you guys have? Any big collaborations your fans should be excited about?
NICe7: We are working on many new originals. For updates pertaining to our forthcoming releases follow us on Facebook (HERE) or on Twitter (@nice7italy). We will give your more updates the next time we interview.
Datilly: You guys are being supported all over the world by guys like fellow Italian Leon as well as Cadenza’s Reboot who played your tunes at Sonar recently. What does that kind of support mean to you guys? Seeing some of the world’s most accomplished playing your tunes must be a great feeling. What is it like knowing that?
NICe7: It’s always a big pleasure for us to see a big artist playing and supporting our stuff. It’s like if you dream to be a football player and you wake up playing together with Messi and Ronaldo!

Datilly: You guys have played all over the world at an assortment of venues and festival settings. Where is your favorite destination to play? Any favorite clubs?
NICe7: We love to play at any place where the sound system and crowd are both good!
Ibiza is our favorite place to play. It’s the magic island. Everyone loves to play there!
We also like to play in London too!

Datilly: What are some upcoming gigs that you guys are excited about?
NICe7: Being that we normally play in clubs, we are very excited for the Soultech festival in Mexico. It’s in October and it will be really fun playing for all those people.
Datilly: Final question guys. Italian’s have become recognized around the world for their musical abilities. With names like Stefano Noferini, Marco Carola, Mauro Piccotto being some of the bigger names who took Italian electronic music to the next frontier how would you say they affected your development as musicians? How would you describe the Italian sound? Who are some fellow Italians you are excited about?
NICe7: Italians are doing very well and it’s always a big thing to follow good examples.
There isn’t a proper Italian sound. There are so many Italians getting big results in very different genres. From Carola to Crookers to Picotto, it’s ITALY’s POWER! It’s all about PASTA! We have big respect for our big friends Leon and Pirupa. They’re very nice guys and special friends of ours!
